Scope & Content

Series consists of eight photocopied journals handwritten by FitzGerald. The journals contain a wealth of personal information, including FitzGerald's reflections on his artwork, reading, relationships, spirituality, sexuality, and struggles with addiction. They shed light on the various figures that he was associated with, including key players in the San Francisco Renaissance (Jack Spicer, Bob Kaufman, Robert Duncan, and Harold and Dora Dull, who later married FitzGerald) and Vancouver's literary scene in the 1970s (Robin Blaser, Stan Persky, George Stanley, and Celia Duthie). The original copies of these journals are in the collection at the University Archives at the Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley.
