Biography
Born 1975 in Calgary, Owen Kydd completed his BFA at SFU (2001) and worked in Jeff Wall’s studio until moving to Los Angeles to pursue his MFA at UCLA, where he continues to live and work. Kydd began exhibiting years before completing his BFA, although he did not receive much recognition until 2006 when he returned to exhibiting his work. He work can now be understood as part of a new generation of Vancouver photography. In his interest in durational photography, his work considers the space between and the overlaps occurring in photography and cinema. He has recently exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, and the International Center of Photography (New York). Kydd’s works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), the San Francisco MoMA, the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Albright-Knox Museum (Buffalo), and numerous others.
