Object Description

Item is a catalogue published to accompany the retrospective exhibition, "The Search for the Spirit: General Idea 1968-1975" held at the Art Gallery of Ontario, between October 8, 1997 and January 11, 1998. The catalogue contains images of General Idea activities, ephemera, manuscripts, notes, and correspondence; a selection from the "Showcard Series"; Miss General Idea Pageant submissions, including Vincent Trasov's winning 1971 submission of Marcel Dot (Michael Morris); reproductions of fragments from General Idea publications such as File megazine; texts by Fern Bayer (guest curator) and Christina Ritchie (curator of modern art); and a selected group biography. Catalogue contains an inscription to Michael Morris and Vincent Trasov from AA Bronson and a "Hand of the Spirit" rubber stamp.
