- From Evergon’s The Ramboys and typical of this series, this untitled photograph depicts an unclothed figure wearing a ram’s-horned helmet, shot in a shallow, interior space. In 1990, Evergon began to develop a major body of black-and-white imagery, The Ramboys, which now comprises several hundred images. The Ramboys series and their culture are a fiction of the artist’s own invention, where Ramboys, inspired by the Greek god Pan and its embodiment of unrestrained male sexuality symbolized by the ram, are photographed as young, beautiful men uninhibited in their sexuality, wearing ram’s-horned helmets and associated dress. Explored over many years, Evergon imagines a full fictional world of an entire mythological community through his Ramboys series.
