These photographs by Lucy Hogg depict close-up details of various exhibitions and scenes at the 2007 Venice Biennale, focusing on seemingly random and inconsequential aspects of this major international art fair. Of the photos, the artist writes, “The images in the series, [previously] titled Detritus, examine the conditions of production and consumption in art, finding correlations between the art school, the studio, the exhibition venue and more quotidian sites such as construction projects, storage areas and domestic settings. The work functions as an anthropological look at the art world, and considers art production in the context of a larger arena of human activity.”
