- Object Description
- This marionette is from a series of 20 created during Dao’s 2022 residency with the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, made from hand-me-down and inherited clothing, doll and teddy bear shoes, fishing line, plywood controllers and clay. Accompanied with the video, Lucifer Fall from Heaven at Dawn (see BG6366), the bat is the focal point to the work made during this residency.
Given this particular moment in history, Dao sees the bat at the intersections of ecology, community and economy, pestilence (in particular, the Covid-19 pandemic) and good fortune, sight and sound as well as otherness and belonging.
This specific bat marionette has red wings and a cream-coloured suite with the word "THECHNOLOGY" across the chest.
