- Object Description
- Bernadette Phan's paintings explore the boundaries between what is seen and what is surrounding, a continuous negotiation between surface and background. Her use of thick oil paint in gradating colour is almost sculptural, with the texture of the stippled paint capturing light and creating its own coloured shadows. While the grid-like geometry of these works appears almost hard edged when viewed from a distance, at closer look they reveal themselves to be almost painterly fingerprints.
