The plaque on the bust reads:

Norman A.M. MacKenzie: C.C., C.M.G, M.M. and Bar, C.O., Q.C., B.A., L.L.B., L.L.M., L.L.DL, D.C.L., D.Sc.Soc., D.LITT., Hon. Fellow St. John's College, Cambridge, F.R.S.C., President of the University of British Columbia 1944-1962. “Larry” MacKenzie's achievements as student, soldier, sportsman, scholar in international law, educator, administrator, senator are saluted by students, faculty, staff, alumni of the University,  citizens of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, who pay tribute with respect, affection and gratitude to this great Canadian. Norman MacKenzie Centre for Fine Arts the Board of Governor's of the University of British Columbia edicated this area as the Norman MacKenzie Centre for Fine Arts, which includes the Frederick Lasserre Building, the Music Building, the Frederick Wood Theatre and the site for a future fine arts gallery on September 3, 1979. The students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University as well as citizens of Canada and many other countries commemorated Dr. MacKenzie's "yearning to discover self and the world, desire to render service to others, will conquer the new, the novel, the unknown. Tolerance, Wisdom and Understanding.
