Object Description

Item is a magazine clipping of the RMS Mauretania during World War I, where ships were camouflaged with "dazzle camouflage" or "razzle dazzle" to confuse enemy torpedos prior to radar technology. The Mauretania is seen leaving a harbour with a checkered pattern painted all over the ship. Item may have been used for Image Bank's Postcard Proposals (as noted on folder). Item was used in Image Bank's 1972 International Image Exchange Directory publication, and is listed as the 8th image in the "list of illustrations".
