Object Description

Item is number thirteen of the magazine Art-Rite. The magazine was edited, written, and put together by artists Edit DeAk and Walter Robinson, and ran twenty one issues between 1973 and 1978. The magazine contained reviews of artists' work, poetry, and articles discussing modern art and art critics. Item is a special issue created by artist Alan Suicide, and is "dedicate[d] to the average American in search of excitement." Item includes a series of iconic images relating to modern "underculture" including "horse racing, white trash smut, greasy rock 'n' roll, muscles, motorcycles and the end of civilization".
