Item is number five of the magazine Art-Rite. The magazine was edited, written, and put together by artists Edit DeAk and Walter Robinson, and ran twenty one issues between 1973 and 1978. The magazine contained reviews of artists' work, poetry, and articles discussing modern art and art critics. Item includes articles featuring the following: the Whitney Downtown and Artists Space galleries, conceptual artist Douglas Heubler and the idea of art as document, a survey of female artists on the relationship between art and gender, Diaristic Art, the work of Michelle Stuart, an excerpt from the script of Red Horse a performance art work by Lee Breuer with music by Philip Glass, and description of the Mabou Mines Theatre company, a biography of art critic and curator Lucy Lippard, the work of artist Christian Boltanski, a review of an exhibition entitled Contemporanea.
