Biography

William Percy Weston (1879–1967) was a Vancouver-based artist whose oil paintings depict the landscape of British Columbia. Weston was educated in London, UK, and in 1909 moved to Vancouver to continue his exploration of the landscape. His works reflect a tradition of British landscape painting through immaculate technique, powerful imagination and idealistic interpretation; they also reflect his passionate drive to know every inch of the mountainous coastal landscape. A contemporary of Emily Carr and a fellow member of the Canadian Group of Painters, Weston exhibited extensively within Canada and internationally in galleries such as the Vancouver Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Canada, as well as at the World’s Fair in New York in 1939.
