Biography

Attila Richard Lukacs is an internationally recognized multimedia artist. Born in Alberta in 1962, Lukacs graduated from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver. While still a student at Emily Carr, Lukacs and seven other painters were selected for the 1985 exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery The Young Romantics that focused on young painters whose work was seen as the return of painting. It was curated by Scott Watson. After graduation, Lukacs moved to Berlin where he painted his well-known series of homoerotic skinheads and in 1996, relocated to New York City. In 2001, he left New York for Hawaii and eventually returned to Vancouver in 2003 where he continues to work. His challenging sexual content is among the most notable features of his artwork, and he is uncompromising as an artist who deals with the underlying passions that reside within desire. Lukacs has shown extensively and has work in private and public collections including the Vancouver Art Gallery, Rideau Hall (Ottawa), Nickle Galleries, Edmonton Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Ontario, National Gallery of Canada, Canada Council Art Bank, Canadian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst (Ghent) and the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Montreal.
