Brian Jungen

Brian Jungen (Dane-zaa/Swiss, b. 1970) is an artist who works in sculpture, drawing, textiles, film and installation. Jungen incorporates visual elements from both western consumer culture and motifs drawn from Indigenous traditions. He is well known for his sculptures, such as his Prototypes for New Understanding series (1998-2005), which repurpose Air Jordan athletic shoes to make versions of Northwest Coast Indigenous ceremonial masks.
