Scope & Content
File contains images related to a Correspondence event organized by Image Bank. Image Bank was established in 1969 by Michael Morris and Vincent Trasov. Image Bank was an international network of artists exchanging and communicating ideas, ephemera, information, research, and images through the postal system. The event consisted of a call for images to be sent to the Image Bank relating to George Orwell's novel "1984". File contains images from various times and places, but all relate to George Orwell's novel "1984" and have dystopian or utopian and futuristic themes. Images consist of illustrations, image reproductions and news clippings. Images include illustrations created by artist Eric Metcalfe, also known as Dr. Brute, and artist collective Ant Farm. Some slides have annotations such as "VICTOR COLEMAN 1984", "MONTE CAZZAZA 1984", "Gnome King 1984", "GUTERANCE" and "VANCOUVER BUS STATION '1984' DR. BRUTE". File also contains two cardboard notes that are annotated with "AS[IB] - 65 IMAGE BANK ORIG." and "Send Back to Image Bank".
