Scope & Content

File consists of three folders containing an exhibition catalogue, portfolios, correspondence, receipts, press release, catalogue lists, newspaper articles, photographs, and slides. Random Sample, N=42 was organized by Toronto sociologist Arnold Rockman and consisted of randomly selected and randomly displayed contemporary things. The second exhibition Piles included a serial arrangement of sculpture by Iain Baxter& which included items such as salt grains and rubber tires. The accompanying exhibition catalogue is titled A Portfolio of Piles. Baxter& was concerned with the inherent beauty in natural structures of piles made up of ordinary objects. The exhibitions were part of the Festival of Contemporary Arts, and were shown at the UBC Fine Arts Gallery February 6 to 22, 1968.
