File consists of two folders containing festival pamphlets, festival schedule, press release, catalogue lists, correspondence, receipts, blue-line drawings, notes, and newspaper articles. The exhibitions were held as part of the Festival of Contemporary Arts which ran from February 1 to 10, 1965. The Medium is the Message was presented February 3 to 5, 1965, focusing on the combination of poetry, painting, photography, and sound. The show was commonly referred to as The Armouries Show, and required substantial audience participation. The show was prepared by Helen Goodwin, Iain Baxter, David Orcutt, Cortland Hultber, Abraham Rogatnick, Takao Tanabe, Alvin Balkind, Sam Perry, Roy Kiyooka, and Helen Sonthoff. Bruce Conner - A One Man Show featured twelve assemblages by the artist and ran from February 2 to 10, 1965. The Dark Mirror: A Selection of Works by Contemporary American Expressionists: A Study in Degradation, Despair and Pessimism ran from February 2 to 10, 1965. This exhibition featured works by Robert Bidner, Paul Binai, Fernando Botero, David De Long, Dorothy Golobe, Sidney Goodman, Theodore Halkin, Richard Karwoski, Hilario Munoz, Henry Regis, Mowry Baden, Ludvik Durchanek, Jackie Ferrara, Theodore Halkin, Joseph Kurhajec, Jean Linder, Robert Mallary, Anthony R. Paterson, John Pearson, Thomas Cornell, Paul Davis, and Maryan. The festival also included poetry readings by Jack Spicer, Dave Dawson, Greydon Moore, and Wayne Nyberg; the completion of a structure by Jeffrey Lindsay; a play by Harold Pinter; a free jazz performance by the Don Thompson Quartet featuring Claire Lawrence; and a program of experimental films by Bruce Baillie, Kenneth Anger, Stanton Kaye, Frank Fleming, Robert Lapoujade, and Ed Ermshwiller.
