Scope & Content

File consists of receipts, correspondence, signed exhibition contracts, and newspaper articles. The exhibition featured the works of seven artists: Roy Kiyooka, Glenn Toppings, Bob Steele, Takao Tanabe, B. Hart, James Johnston, and Cynthia Gardner. These contemporary artists all broke away from the conventions of the flat surface and/or the regular frame. Out of this impulse have come works of precisionist-purism, lyrical abstraction, realism, surrealism with Dadaist overtones, and some containing humour and the vigor of naïveté. The exhibition was shown at the UBC Fine Arts Gallery November 14 to December 1, 1962.
